Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time Building Services Supervisor. This position is Monday through Friday, 5:00pm-1:00am.
Gustavus Adolphus College is a private liberal arts college in Saint Peter, Minn., that prepares 2,400 undergraduates for lives of leadership, service, and lifelong learning. Fully accredited and known for its strong science, writing, music, athletics, study-away, and service-learning programs, Gustavus hosts a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and is internationally recognized for its annual Nobel Conference.
Building Services as part of the Facilities Management department provides custodial and event services of approximately 50 buildings, covering 329 acres totaling over 1.7 square feet. Custodial services to areas such as Academic and Athletic facilities, Auxiliary and Chapel services and residential and apartment housing. Building services is responsible for the general daily cleaning and deep cleaning of carpets hard floors year round, and assisting with snow removal in the winter and conference support in the summer.
The Building Services Supervisor will provide direct support to the Director of Building Services and daily supervision of Building Services Teams. This position will manage the daily operations including but not limited to inventory control, equipment maintenance, technical training, project management, safety compliance, quality assurance, and performance evaluations to ensure efficient delivery of the highest possible service to all students, visitors, residents, faculty and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communicate correspondence effectively to subordinate staff regarding operational implementations, policies and procedures, and department objectives.
Organize and maintain an orderly office filing system in a manner that facilitates accurate and timely retrieval of information as requested.
Document, track and maintain attendance records, and provide corrective action for unsatisfactory attendance.
Monitor employee timekeeping and payroll records for accuracy.
Monitor and maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files and building copies in a manner that facilitates the continuous updating of information provided to employees under OSHA rules and regulations.
Perform employee evaluations of assigned staff, using documented expectations, specific measurable goals and objectives and accurate tracking methods.
Maintain confidentiality of records and department contacts.
Identify cleaning standards based on Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) guidelines.
Conduct new hire, monthly and annual Technical Training and Safety Training for all subordinate staff. Provide and develop follow-up training as necessary.
Enforce department and college policies (i.e. dress code, work behavior).
Establish cleaning schedules based on staffing levels, workload, and service frequency.
Create service schedules in conjunction with campus needs (annual and seasonal events)(Nobel Conference, Commencement, Christmas in Christ Chapel, Summer Programs).
Inspect, maintain and track inventory levels and equipment conditions in assigned areas.
Ensure overall quality and completeness of work and prepares plan of action for substandard work results.
Provide training, process improvement and corrective action to unacceptable service levels and timeliness of task completion.
Ability to makes decisions pertinent to the daily operations of the department such as prioritizing emergency and special requests, balancing work projects, evaluating workload to meet budget and timelines.
Demonstrate proper leadership and work ethic that contributes to a positive work environment throughout the college community. Present a friendly, respectful and cooperative attitude in dealing with staff, faculty, students and guests.
Coach and review work assignments with, coordinators and custodians to ensure proper procedures are followed and all assigned areas are cleaned according to work distributions and service standards.
Ability to make discretionary decisions independently.
Availability to work weekends as required
All other duties as assigned.
